Students attend Asian American Youth Leadership Conference
This year’s keynote speaker was John Eklof, a writer, educator, and community organizer from Lakewood, Wa. The conference serves as an annual summit aimed at inspiring Asian American youth to value the importance of self-discipline, self-confidence, self-esteem, and the overall rewards of perseverance and achievement.
Each year college scholarships are awarded to AAYLC senior participants. One of our students, Anna Nguyen ’18 was one of the recipients. This is Anna’s third year of participating in the AAYLC. She looks forward to the conference each year because she gets to learn more about what she can do to educate, advocate, and empower her Asian-American peers and the event pushes her to step outside her comfort zone and ask difficult questions. Anna will attend University of Oregon’s Robert D. Clark Honors College in the fall and plans to double major in Biochemistry and Political Science, with a minor in Psychology or Economics. Congratulations Anna!
