Athletic Update Regarding Covid -19

Athletic Update Regarding Covid -19

Dear Central Catholic Athletes and Families,

It is with a heavy heart I wanted to inform you that in conjunction with Governor Kate Brown’s and OSAA’s announcement yesterday, all Central Catholic Athletics and Activities are cancelled through the remainder of this school year. The health and safety of our student athletes, coaches, parents and Ram fans remains our highest priority during this COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal during this time of social distancing is to keep our athletes engaged and connected with their coaches and teammates. I have been in contact with all of our spring coaches, and they have quickly adapted by providing their athletes with individual workouts, arranging team zoom meetings, giving article and book assignments to read and share, sending sports specific videos and journaling. These are just a few of the creative ways our coaches are connecting and keeping in touch with our athletes. Many of our fall and winter season coaches are also checking in with their athletes during the off season. We will be highlighting posts and activities of our teams on our Athletic Department’s social media accounts. Please follow us on our Instagram page ( and Facebook page (

I want to acknowledge the disappointment and frustration many of our athletes, families and community are feeling with this announcement regarding the cancellation of the spring sports season. I’m especially committed to finding ways to support and celebrate our seniors. Our seniors have experienced many great achievements that deserve recognition. We will keep you informed regarding the venues we plan to honor our senior athletes.

The $75.00 athletic fee for spring sport athletes was purposely delayed until we had definitive information about the season. With yesterday’s cancellation announcement of all spring contests, the athletic fee will not be charged to your student athlete’s account. Regarding uniforms, each spring team was in a different stage of distributing team clothing, uniforms and gear. Some teams received all of their gear and some were still waiting to hand out uniforms or waiting on orders. For teams that have uniforms that are school issued and typically returned at the end of the season, please hold on to those uniforms until the social distancing restrictions are lifted.  At that time, we will then send out information as to where and when you should drop them off at the school. The gear and clothing that was issued with the intent for you to keep (polo shirts, dry fit t-shirts, shorts, warm ups, jackets, socks etc.) will be student billed on June 1. I will be working with each individual coach to try to apply a deeper discount to help keep the cost down as much as possible during this difficult time. In most circumstances, you will be paying considerably less than the actual value of the items the athlete received.

We will continue to provide updated information on our website, Instagram and Facebook pages as it becomes available. I hope all of you are healthy and safe during this time and I am confident we will get through this together. Have a blessed Easter and take special care of yourselves and each other.
