Central Catholic is a One-to-One school--meaning one device for each student.
Beginning with the Freshmen Class for the 2026-27 school year, we will no longer be requiring or providing access to specific laptops. This will enable families to secure their own pricing. The required specs are as follows:
Spec 1: The Reliable Scholar (Basic)
This specification is optimized for students who primarily use web-based learning management systems and local productivity suites. It prioritizes a "set it and forget it" experience with long-range battery life.
- Processor (CPU): Intel Core Ultra 5 or AMD Ryzen 5 (7000 series or newer). These chips offer a great balance of power efficiency and speed for multitasking across dozens of browser tabs.
-
RAM: 16GB LPDDR5. While 8GB was once the standard, 16GB is now essential to ensure the laptop doesn't become sluggish by the student's junior or senior year.
-
Storage (SSD): 512GB NVMe SSD. This provides ample space for local Microsoft Office files and offline school projects.
-
Display Resolution: 1920 x 1200 (FHD+). A 16:10 aspect ratio is highly recommended as it provides more vertical space for reading documents and Canvas assignments.
-
Battery Life Estimate: 8-12 hours of "real-world" use.
-
Operating System: Windows 11 Home or macOS. Windows offers the broadest compatibility with school-required lockdowns or specialized testing software.
Spec 2: The Creative Powerhouse (Advanced)
This specification is designed for students enrolled in digital media, photography, or yearbook classes. It focuses on the high sustained performance required for Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Processor (CPU): Intel Core Ultra 7, AMD Ryzen 7, or Apple M4. These processors have more cores to handle the background processing required for video rendering.
- RAM: 24GB to 32GB. Photoshop and video editing software "eat" RAM; higher capacity prevents the system from crashing during heavy edits.
-
Storage (SSD): 1TB NVMe SSD. High-resolution photos and video files take up significant space quickly.
-
Display Resolution: 2.5K (2560 x 1600) or OLED. High color accuracy (100% sRGB or DCI-P3) is vital for photo editing to ensure colors look correct when printed or shared.
-
Battery Life Estimate: 8–10 hours during creative work; 15+ hours during basic tasks. Dedicated GPUs or high-performance chips drain battery faster when under load.
-
Operating System: macOS (MacBook Pro) or Windows 11 Pro. macOS is often preferred by creative professionals for its display color management, while Windows allows for more hardware customization.
Warranty Recommendations
It is highly recommended to select an extended warranty that includes accidental damage. Coverage should remain active for the full duration of the student’s time at CCHS.
How do I access support if I am having an issue with my laptop?
