Community Mourns Loss of Deante Strickland '15
The Central Catholic community has heavy hearts as we learned of the loss of one of our graduates, Deante Strickland ’15. Deante was an outstanding young man who was attending Portland State University. He was majoring in social science and competing for their basketball and football teams.

"Deante had an infectious personality and a smile that would change your mood instantly,” said football coach Steve Pyne. “He impacted all those around him. His loyalty, gratitude, and humility made all who came into contact with him better for it. As an athlete, Deante was gifted with a great work ethic and competitive spirit. He played with tremendous effort and enjoyment; this made a significant impact on his teammates and coaches. They never wanted to let him down.”

“Deante was a loyal friend. He put his whole heart into whatever he wanted to achieve and always with a smile,” said Principal of Central Catholic Danyelle Ramsey. “This kind of tragedy and loss leaves those who knew him and loved him with an incredibly empty space. This is the time for all of us to come together and fill those empty spaces with fierce love.”

“The loss of such an incredible young person is unimaginable,” said Central Catholic President Colin McGinty. “We are all grieving this unexpected loss to our community. Deante and his family, friends, and the Portland State community will be in our thoughts and prayers.”
