The following letter may help you frame your own message to friends, family, and other potential sponsors.  Feel free to use as much of this language as you like, but don't forget to personalize it for maximum effect!

I am a student at Central Catholic, a private high school in Portland, Oregon. Every day, I feel very lucky to be able to attend such an amazing high school that is full of teachers who truly care about my success and go out of their way to ensure my experience prepares me for college and beyond. Not only are the academic, sports, and fine arts programs fantastic, but Central Catholic has also taught me the importance of community and service. Every year, as a student body we volunteer with local nonprofit organizations, we raise money to support organizations including the Children’s Cancer Association and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and we perform roughly 20,000 hours of community service.  

All students pay tuition to attend Central Catholic and nearly half of our students would not be able to attend without tuition assistance. Every year the students organize a fundraiser called students4students to make certain that our place in the community can be sustained.  This students4students fundraiser helps keep tuition affordable for all and ensure that diverse arrays of extra-curricular programs are available to match the needs and interests of our students. I believe in what Central Catholic offers to not only its students, but the greater community and I have made a commitment to participate in the students4students fundraiser.

I am reaching out to see if you are interested in helping me meet my fundraising goal by making a contribution to Central Catholic. All donations are tax deductible and any amount will help our school continue its mission to educate students from diverse backgrounds in a Catholic community and challenge each individual to live as a Christian witness in service to others.

If sending a letter, please consider including in the mailing a self-addressed, stamped envelope. This will allow the donor to easily send a donation and studies have shown that donors are more likely to help if a stamped return envelope is provided.
