2013-14 Ram Swimmers Close Out Season At State Meet; Girls Finish 15th Overall
The Central Catholic girl swimmers finished 15th overall at the OSAA-6A Swimming State Championships. Led by Felicia Anderson who finished 4th overall in the individual 100 yard Backstroke (57:04), and 5th in the 100 yard Butterfly (59:05) the Lady Rams closed out a successful season. Anderson also swam the Butterfly leg in the 200 Medley Relay and with teammates Casey Dumont, Catherine Nisbet, and Ally Rossi, finished in 10th place overall in a time of 1:55.96. The same four came back in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:44.54, giving them an 11th place overall in the finals. With all four swimmers returning next season the Lady Rams look to continue building on the progress they demonstrated each week this year.
The Central boys had a successful meet as well, but fell short in the final scoring due to limited qualifiers in the finals. The boys 200 IM Relay (1:43.94) barely missed advancing to the finals losing by .04 to Lake Oswego (1:43.90). Armani Dirks swam a personal best 1:02.57 in the individual 100 yard Breaststroke, finishing 13th overall, again missing the finals by one place and .5 of a second. Teammate Jack Ivory also swam a personal best of 22.70 in the 50 yard Freestyle. He too came close to advancing to the finals, falling short by two spots taking 14th overall. Overall, the Rams had an outstanding finish to a very successful season.
Head Coach Jill Black sees a promising future ahead with most of the young talent returning even stronger next season.
Congratulations swimmers to a job well done!!!
2013-14 Ram Swimmers Do Well and Earn Several State Entries At District Meet
The Central Catholic swim team completed their regular season last weekend (Feb.14-15) at the Mt. Hood Conference District swim championship meet held at Mt. Hood Community College.
Both the girls and boys teams finished in 5th place in the Mt. Hood Conference during the regular season, and both placed 5th again at the District meet.
On the girls side Felicia Anderson won the individual 100 yard backstroke in 58.98, and placed a close second in the 100 yard butterfly (59.48). This earned Anderson an entry to the state meet in both events. The girls 200 medley relay of Casey Dumont, Catherine Nisbet, Anderson, and Ally Rossi took 3rd place behind Barlow and David Douglas with a time of 1:56:50. The same team of four took 2nd place in the 200 freestyle relay behind David Douglas with a time of 1:45.04, also earning a spot at the state meet.
On the boyʼs side, Jack Ivory finished behind the swimmers from David Douglas and Centennial placing 3rd in the individual 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.77. The Centennial swimmer narrowly inched out Ivory by .3 of a second to take 2nd place. The final individual state qualifier for the CC boys was Armani Dirks who placed 2nd in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.41. The Rams 200 Medley relay team of Byron Rossmiller, Dirks, Ivory, and Nicholas Kennedy also qualified for the state championship meet, placing 2nd behind Centennial with a time of 1:44:45.
With three relay teams and 3 individual qualifiers for the State Meet, Central Catholic is heading in the right direction as the team has grown and improved tremendously this past year. Coach Jill Black has done a great job bringing respect to the program in her first year as head coach.
Congratulations to all of the qualifiers and alternates competing in the State Championships this coming weekend (February 21-22) at Mt. Hood Community College.
