Rick Lorenz - Molding Young People

Creative parents, studies with legendary glassmaker Dale Chihuly, travels focused on stained glass in major European cathedrals, a BA in art sculpture and an MA in theology from Seattle University have lead Rick Lorenz to combine the themes of art and faith in his teaching career at Central Catholic High School.

Rick joined the faculty at Central Catholic in 1988.  Since then, he has taught stained glass and ceramics, while at the same time independently developing his talent as a an artist specializing in stained-glass works on sports themes [see example at right].

Rick's latest classroom focus is setting up a new fusing kiln and involving his students in the process.  "It adds a
whole new twist to the stained glass experience,'' Rick says.

In the classroom, Rick believes that the ''the creative process is an attempt to try and understand the essence of people and things.''
