Siena’s Whitney Cave ’02 was one of two players in the nation to receive a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Scholarship Award. Cave grabbed more rebounds than any other player in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and she amassed a 3.79 grade point average while majoring in mathematics with a concentration in computer science. She was one of only two players in league play to average a double-double and tallied 14 double-digit scoring games, 13 double-figure rebounding games and eight double-doubles. Outside of basketball, Cave has volunteered her time tutoring a student who was struggling in calculus at a local high school. Cave has also volunteered by hosting her own rebounding clinic for a local junior high boys’ basketball team.
“Whitney is a tireless worker on the court and off,” remarked Siena women’s basketball head coach Gina Castelli. “To be chosen as one of two basketball players in the nation is a great honor. Whitney truly embodies everything you want in a student-athlete.”
