We moved BACK to Muncie, Indiana in 2005 where Matt, my husband, and I are both teaching at Ball State University. He is teaching exercise physiology in their Human Performance Laboratory, and I am teaching in the School of Nursing. I also work part-time as a Nurse Practitioner in Geriatrics. We welcomed Bethany Nicole Harber into our family on June 27, 2006. She joins big brother Luke William born July 30, 2004.

I am happily married with 3 children ages, 8, 6, and 2 and going on 14 years in the Military with 5 years active Navy and the rest with the National Guard. After returning from Iraq in 2005, I switched companies and now work for OHSU as the Logistics Manager. I am also taking on a Head Coaching position for Women's Basketball at Aloha High. Plus, I continue to keep up my support with St. Anthony's CYO programs as a coach.

After coming back from Iraq in the fall of 2005 I stayed at Fort Lewis, WA for a few more months. I transferred to Fort Polk, LA to be an Observer Controller at the US Army's Joint Readiness Training Center where I train battalion intelligence officers before they deploy with their units. My wife Erika and I experienced the birth of our second son, Walker Kipling Ciliberti this past June. Beyond that, we are learning to enjoy the Deep South, but hope to make it back to the great Pacific Northwest some day.
Nicolas Miranda '98 has been playing guitar since he was a freshman at Central Catholic. He has studied music at both Whitman College and the Berklee School of Music, though says his real education has just come from hours of playing and listening. While primarily a guitarist, he also plays the mandolin, bass, and piano. Nicolas and classmate Carli Halligan '98, are members of a local rock n' roll band called "The Revenge Business," which gigs regularly around Portland. Nicolas also plays in an acoustic quartet, performs as a solo instrumentalist, and works as a studio guitarist. Along with his passion for playing music is his enthusiasm for teaching. Jamal Harvey ’91 and Casey Stermon were married May 13, 2006, at the Museum of the Oregon Territory in Oregon City. Jamal is the Chief Legal Assistant at the Metropolitan Public Defender’s Office in Portland and Casey is a legal assistant in Milwaukie. They live in Milwaukie.

“I am married and have a 20 month old son. We currently live in north central Montana and have been here for the last two years. My husband works for the BNSF Railroad and that is how we ended up here!”
Gina Pizzuto Welch ’92 and her husband Wyatt had a baby girl on June 14, 2006. Ella Rose Welch weighed in at 6 lbs, 13 oz. Gina is a member of the Central Catholic Alumni Board.
Laura Williamson Payne ’93 had a baby on Mother’s Day, Julia Christine.

Meghan Faherty Phelps ’93 and John Phelps welcomed their second son, Patrick Sherman, to the family on December 17, 2005.
Shane Hawkins ’94 and wife Jeana, welcomed their first child, a son, Mason Robert (at right), on October 19, 2006.
Marlo Fitzgerald-Smith ’94 and her husband, Matt, welcomed the birth of their first child, Kaiden Matthew Smith, on July 25, 2006.
Claire Kendall Lord ’96 wrote, “My husband Mike and I just welcomed baby Grant Michael on August 8, 2006. He joins sisters, Carly (4) and Ella (2). We love having a little boy in the house!”
Carolyn Sweeney ‘97 married Chad Smith on July 22 in Lake Oswego. They make their home in Concord, CA where they live with their dog, Lambert the Lab. Both Carolyn and Chad are graduates of St. Mary’s College of California. She is a division director for Robert Half International and Chad is a project manager for Mark Scott Construction.
Michael O’Connor ‘90 was promoted to Partner at the law firm, Garvey, Schubert and Baxter (GSB). The firm specializes in business, employment and class action litigation with 130 attorneys at offices in Portland, Seattle, Washington, D.C., New York and Beijing. In addition, he serves on several volunteer Boards, including President of the Oregon Club of Portland (a University of Oregon Athletics group) and the Cascade Aids Project. The Portland Business Journal featured Michael as one of Forty under 40 – an annual distinction given by the magazine to up and coming business people in the Portland area.
Ann (Hansen) Wiren ’93 wrote: We just had our third child, Matthew, in October. His big brother Ben (6) and sister Josie (4½) are as thrilled as we are! Jeff’s been a real estate broker for over a year now, and I’ve been blessed to be a stay-at-home mom for the past six years.
Erik Nelson ’94 married Julie Domerc (Lyon, France) on May 25, 2002 in Champagne au Mont d’Or (suburb of Lyon, France). Currently he is working as a Financial Position Trader in the Futures and Currency Markets (self-employed). He attended Portland State University from 1995-2002, majoring in Urban Geography and French with a minor in Community Development. He also attended Université de Lyon II 1999-2001 earning a major in French (3 year diploma).
Erica Smith ’97 and Bryce Gehlen ’96 announce the birth of their first child, Cade William, born March 22nd. He weighed 7 lbs 13 oz and was 19.5” long. Cade joins his family at home in Camas, Washington.
Joey Harrington ’97 was a finalist for the 40th Annual Byron “Whizzer” White Award which honors National Football League players who exemplify leadership, dedication and commitment to team and community. Harrington is one of 10 finalists for the prestigious award. The award is named after former U.S. Supreme Court Justice and NFL back Byron “Whizzer” White. White was a college All-American at Colorado before going to the NFL to play for Pittsburgh (1938) and Detroit (1940-41). He died in 2002 at the age of 84.
Brooke Hohnstein Cortes ’97 and her husband Adrian welcomed a daughter, Adriana, on August 8, 2005 weighing in at 7 lbs 10 oz and measuring 19¼ inches long.
Jackie Geraci ’98 shared: My fiancé and I recently bought a house in Camas. I am engaged and am getting married in March 2006. I’m a technical support provider, and I am going back to school to finish my degree and become a teacher. I play the piano in my spare time and I played at a piano bar in Portland for awhile.
Sgt. Garth Gehlen ’98 is currently serving in the Seattle based 304th Public Affairs Detachment and is completing his first deployment in Tampa, Florida at US CENTCOM, where he is one of three people in the military assigned to blogging. His responsibilities are to find and respond to blog sites on the internet that deal with the military and what they are doing in the Middle East. Garth spent seven months in Qatar, traveling to Africa as a writer and a photographer for the military. He went to Pakistan in December to document the relief efforts following the earthquake that killed 73,000 people and left millions homeless and injured. The U.S. military provided medical care to the Pakistan people and rebuilt homes, schools, and hospitals. Garth’s tour of duty will end in July. He is planning to return to the Portland area to finish his education.
Melissa (Warfield) Downey ’99 received her Bachelors in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and Management from The University of Portland in 2004. Melissa married Jason Downey on October 9, 2004 at Saint Mary’s Cathedral in Portland, Oregon. They now reside in the Bethany area. After graduating from The University of Portland, Melissa pursued a career in marketing, but decided to follow her dream of owning her own business. On December 1, 2005, Melissa’s dream became a reality when she took over The Wedding Cottage (www.theweddingcottage.net), a wedding invitation and accessory business located in Beaverton, Oregon.
