Success cannot be measured strictly by winning and losing but by a much more objective measure of personal performances. Even if you are not the best on a given day you can measure yourself against the best you've ever done before. Improvement is one of our primary goals, regardless of winning and losing. At the Olympic Trials in 1992 a man by the name of Tom Nohilly placed fourth in the steeplechase. Many people thought that Tom would be unhappy with that finish, having missed the Olympic Team by less than one-tenth of a second. On the contrary, he was grinning from ear to ear, having cut twelve seconds off his best time and becoming the sixth fastest American of all time. With improvement comes success. There is no greater feeling.
Whether you are new to the program or returning you will find that there is ample opportunity for you to succeed. Your coaches have been very successful in the past, both competing and coaching. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM!! If we believe in ourselves and each other we can achieve any goals that we set. IT IS UP TO YOU!!!
As your coaches we are here to help you become the best track & field athlete you can be. We hope that you find the kind of success you can realistically desire for yourself. We have no magic potions or formulas for your success, only lots of hard work, encouragement, and, often, frustration and discouragement. If you keep your eyes on the goal, be alert, pay attention, and do your best, you will reap rewards and immense satisfaction. Our satisfaction comes from your attitude and achievements.
It is our sincere hope that all of you can look back in May and honestly say that it was worthwhile. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!!!
